The students of the federal polytechnic Bida have been advised on the need to take adequate measures to treat catarrh, this was made known in an interview with a medical practioner Dr. Kingsley okeke from the school medical centre.
Dr. Kingsley okeke explained that ”catarrh is an excessive discharge or build up of mucus in the nose or throat, associated with inflammation of the mucous membrane”.
Dr. Okeke disclosed that catarrh is often temporary but some people experience it for months or years.
He noted that treatments for catarrh include taking sips of cold water when you feel the need to clear your throat because constantly clearing your throat may make things worse, not suppressing a cough, applying a warm wet washcloth to the face, drinking plenty of fluids, keeping the air moist, keeping the head elevated, using a saline nasal spray or rinse, gargling with salt water.
He advised that students should make a determine effort to go for treatment when they have catarrh since it is a communicable disease but a curable one.
