Asthmais ongoing chronic inflammation of airways in the lungs. This inflammation makes the airways vulnerable to episodes of difficult breathing(asthma attack).
Common triggers of attacks includes allergies, cold, and exercise. Asthma in older children can interfere with sleep, school, sport, and social activities.
According to DR. Emmanuel Chinda, in an interveiw, said asthma management depends on controlling inflammation with drugs, avoiding triggers when possible and using medications to treat asthma attacks. He went further to say that a child with the help of the parent or guidian, can learn to minimize symptoms by following a written action plan developed with the childs doctor to monitor and adjust treatment as necessary.
Cletus Fortune, a student of the federal polytechnic Bida, and an asthma patient when asked, stated that some symptoms she experiences includes
Wheezing, a high pitch, whistle like sound when exhalling
Trouble breathing or shortness of breath
A tight uncomfortable feeling in the chest.
