The Lagos State Government has named the top five local governments areas with high numbers of COVID-19 positive cases.

The state’s Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, made this known via his verified Twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi.

The affected local government areas are: Eti-Osa, Ajeromi, Surulere, Amuwo and Mushin.

According to the accompanying graphs, Eti-Osa leads the cases of infection with 27% of the states’ total infection, put at 34,908 as of Saturday night.

Ajeromi and Surulere ties at 26 percent; while follows with 26 percent, while Amuwo and Mushin tied at 25 percent.

The commissioner also disclosed that the number of COVID-19 positive cases keeps increasing by the day, even as he stated that 180 are currently under isolation, with 6,823 undergoing home-based care for the viral infection.

In terms of capacity utilisation of isolation centres in the state, the commissioner stated that 53 percent of the 448 bed spaces have been filled, leaving approximately 215 beds available.

In all, 15 isolation centres are currently active, while seven of them have been shut down.

Those shut down are: Landmark, Agidingbi, Gbagada, FCC, Lagoon, Indo and Onikan.

Abayomi tweeted, “From six to 22 COVID-19 related deaths between November and December 2020 and 2,172 to 7,420 positive cases within the same period, it is clear, COVID-19 is raging like wild fire fire out there!”

He warned, “The only way to slow the spread of the infection is to adhere strictly to safety protocols.”
